“The word “minimal” is used in reference to any stylistic austerity. When referring to works of art the term “minimalism” is only slightly more precise.
Minimalist works are deeply rooted in the exploitation of a basic concept – simplicity having a powerful influence on the complex. By extreme reduction, minimalism attempts to use the greatest economy to express a complex thought or series of thoughts.”

ABOUT
- Charles McMurray studied painting, sculpture and the graphic arts while pursuing a degree in Architecture at the School of Design at North Carolina State University.
- After completing a diploma in Civic Design at the University of Edinburgh, he worked in the architectural offices of Eero Saarinen, Kevin Roche/John Dinkeloo, A.G. Odell and Harry Wolf before opening his own architectural / planning office.
- In 1971 McMurray’s strong interest in building interiors led him to design and develop a collection of furniture which he began manufacturing in 1981 as Charles McMurray Designs.
- The sale of the furniture company in 1998 allowed him to again pursue his interest in sculpture, painting and graphic arts.
