Digital Fabricators Team Up to Help Out

During this health crisis, digital fabricators around the world are teaming up to help produce medical equipment in low supply. Here in Charlotte, artist Thomas Schmidt and his colleagues at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s digital fabrication lab have connected with local fabricators to leverage idle equipment. The local group is currently focused on producing a face shield designed by @josefprusa.

The open-source design is easy to fabricate and can be worn in front of an original, industry-tested N95 mask, effectively extending the life-cycle of a mask that would otherwise be a one-time-use item at a time where there is a supply shortage. If you have access to 3D printers or would like to help anyway, please feel free to message Tom directly on Instagram @thom.schmidt or by email at t.schmidt@uncc.edu.
